Bloemfontein, the capital city of the Free State Province in South Africa, is  centrally situated  in the province, as well as in South Africa. It is also known as ‘The City Of Roses’, originating from the Dutch for ‘Fountain Of Flowers.’ The well- known Rose Festival is held in October every year. King’s Park  is host to more than 4 000 rose trees.  The Sesotho name for Bloemfontein, ‘Mangaung’ means ‘place of cheetas’—hence the name of the provincial rugby team.  Located in Bloemfontein are many historical buildings like the sandstone City Hall, Old Presidency, Anglican Cathedral,  Raadzaal, the NALN in President Brand Street where we treasure our South African Literature Heritage.
