Kokstad at a glance
Kokstad, the capital of East Griqualand, lies in the valley of the Umzimhlava River between Mount Currie and the Ingeli Mountains at a height of some 1280m above sea level. Few towns in South Africa can compare in scenic beauty or in picturesque history with this unique town which literally rose from the bare veld just over 100 years ago.
Kokstad is currently the fastest growing town in KwaZulu Natal, it is conveniently situated on the R56, just 4km off the N2 freeway, which runs from KZN through the former Transkei to Cape Town. the town offers good shopping and service facilities, medical clinincs, hotels and restaurants, wholesalers and much more.
Kosktad is the central point of Franklin, Swartberg, Matatiele, Harding and Ixopo which are small farming communities as well as Umzimkhulu, Mt Frere, Umtata, Flagstaff, Lusikisiki and Qumbu which are mainly trading towns developing at an increasing rate.
